WORKSHOPS and SPECIAL PROJECTS

Workshops can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, and can be repeated over a series of weeks, for more in-depth work. Workshops are designed to create the raw seeds of work.

Special Projects can be the culmination of workshops: a performance piece or show class showing. Past Special Projects have resulted in Common Sources, Quinceañera, and Hot Shorts!

Paul works with people of all abilities and ages from diverse communities, people with stories to tell.

Paul's process for teaching performance is regenerative. He teaches not only the aesthetic tools, but also how to create a community supportive of the creation process, and how to continue discoveries in his absence. In any workshop process, his goals are as follows:
Create a supportive environment, where honest language, genuine movement and compelling stories can emerge
Present and discover a growing list of aesthetic tools that engender a fertile performance environment,
Teach performers how to respond to work using affirmation and inquiry-based methods of critical response
Make plain and evident the tools of teaching and discovering throughout, so that the learning continues in his absence.
WORKSHOPS - 1 to 3 hours each

Creating Performance - combines the above steps in an initially simple way that becomes more complex during the process of the class

Identity Exploration - a technical performance workshop thematically based on personal identity, whether that is social, cultural and/or political
